Reports from Dot Willey, NEA Director

NEA Directors from New Jersey are members of NJEA's Executive Committee. We are the liaison between NJEA and NEA.

The NEA Board of Directors meets 5 times a year, 4 times in Washington, DC and the 5th time at the RA location. The number of directors from a state is determined by the state membership numbers.

Our typical time in Washington, DC goes like this.

Thursday, 8 am - 8:45 Congressional Briefing at NEA Headquarters; 9 am - 10 am ESP meeting; Lobbying on Capitol Hill the rest of the day. We will try to meet with all 13 Congressmen from New Jersey. We also meet with our 2 Senators. Each NEA Director has at least 1 primary legislator to meet with every time we are in Washington. If an individual Congressman can't meet with us, then, we meet with their legislative aide. At 7 pm we have a dinner meeting of NJ - NEA Directors with NJEA Officers who are in Washington. 9 pm NEA Board Forum. (Informal meeting of all state directors {approximately 170} to discuss concerns relating to the board.

Friday, 7:30 am - 9 am Northeast Region Caucus meeting at NEA Headquarters; 9 am - 5 pm NEA Board of Directors meeting.

Saturday, 9 am - 5 pm NEA Board of Directors meeting at NEA Headquarters.

After each Board of Directors meeting a newsletter is sent out from NJEA to all leaders.
